Theme: "Food Security, Sustainable Development: a Healthy Zimbabwe"
The aim of the Republic of Zimbabwe in joining Expo Milano 2015 is to showcase the efforts it has made in recent years to tackle the problem of food security and to try to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), promoted by the United Nations.
The country has set itself four commitments to ensure food security to all its people and to enhance the role of women as guardians of family traditions. These commitments are: to promote agriculture and universal access to food; to develop programs for social support and protection; to respect national and international standards of quality and hygiene; and to ensure that everyone has a daily intake of nutritional elements necessary for survival.
Zimbabwe participates in the Cereals and Tubers Cluster with an exhibition space that extends over an area of 125 square meters. Its main goal is to promote fundamental issues such as sustainability, and to show the importance of these agricultural products, aiming to combine new production technologies with traditional techniques. A key feature is the cultivation of different varieties of the potato. Cereals and tubers have an extremely high nutritional value, being packed with vitamins and minerals, and their importance has now been recognized in fine cuisine so much so that they are often included on the menus of famous restaurants around the world.
