Theme "Grown in Britain: Shared Globally"
The United Kingdom's participation at Expo Milano 2015 aims to raise global awareness on the impact that food production and consumption have on people's lives, everywhere in the world.
Food choices and policies help to determine the health and well-being of each individual, but those made by industrialized countries may have important consequences on the availability of food, even in countries in the developing world.
To demonstrate this and to stimulate discussion on the need to talk about education and food security in schools, universities and in ever-increasing communities of people, the United Kingdom shows visitors to its pavilion new achievements and innovations reached in each stage of the food chain, from seed to plate, from field to table: agricultural technologies, food security, food and drink, functional food, logistics, openness to global markets and international cooperation.
The British space offers the possibility to create simple and stimulating forms of entertainment, and at the same time, shares with an international audience the United Kingdom’s contribution in dealing with global challenges and achieving the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations.
The Design of the Pavilion
The design is inspired by the unique role that the hives have in our ecosystem, and represents the spirit of the United Kingdom's participation in Expo Milano 2015.
The design around the world is inspired by English artistic feeling, and the winner of the pavilion architectural competition, Wolfgang Buttress, has translated in architectural terms, the strength of British design. The pavilion has been conceived as a project that combines the highest level of design with strong environmental credentials that are found in the most cutting edge science, agro-technologies and engineering. The internationally known team of civil engineers and builders Stage One and Rise are responsible for the pavilion’s construction.
The British pavilion is designed to make its mark on the experience of all visitors to Expo Milano 2015, in which nature, creativity, science and technology combine to meet the challenge underlying the theme "Feeding the Planet".
